COVID-19 infection is found to be increasing in the Kathmandu Valley for failure to adopt minimum health safety protocols, it is said. Of 2,440 infected people found on Monday, the Valley alone recorded 1,531.

Mobility of people along the Nepal-India borders is blamed behind the rise in infection cases, said Spokesperson for the Ministry of Health and Population, Dr Jageshwor Gautam.

'Inflow of people into the Valley from various parts of the country and southern neighbour India is continuing. Infection has increased due to people's negligence to stay in quarantine facility for at least 14 days right after entering the Valley,' he said.

He suggested wearing facemasks, maintaining at least two meters social distance, sanitizing hands and washing hands with soap from time to time. There are a total of 20,765 isolation wards, 2,600 intensive care units and 900 ventilators in the country, he said, adding that construction of 110 ventilators is underway.
