KATHMANDU: Urmila Aryal, a member of parliament from the CPN-Maoist Center, has been elected as the vice-president of the National Assembly.

Speaker of the Assembly Ganesh Prasad Timilsina informed the Assembly that Aryal was elected unopposed while informing that only one person was nominated for the post of Vice President. Speaker Timilsina also congratulated Vice President Aryal, wishing him a successful tenure.

Before that, MP Devendra Dahal of CPN 9 UML 0 said that Aryal is a worthy personality as the vice president of the National Assembly.

Supporting the proposal that Aryal should be elected as the vice president, he said that he is going to get a strong personality of the communist movement of Nepal as the vice president. He said, 'Aryal, who has been involved in the communist movement for a long time, is an established woman and a successful personality who has worked in the social sector.'

Giving his opinion in favor of the proposal, MP Khimlal Devkota said that the role of MP Aryal, who was a female leader and a member of the National Assembly, was commendable in the women's movement of Nepal. He held the opinion that women should be elected as heads of other agencies of the state.

Aryal, who has been a member of the Maoist Center's Standing Committee, has taken over the responsibility of the Regional Development Minister. Aryal was born on 20 October 2013 in Savik Jagarnathpur Rural Municipality-5, Masihani, Parsa. His current address is Birgunj Municipal Corporation-23, Gandak Chowk Birgunj. Aryal, who joined the left-wing movement from the fourth congress of the then CPN, was elected from Madhes province in the National Assembly elections held last year.

Aryal, who has completed his post-graduate studies in sociology, is a research student of Vidyavaridhi. Aryal, who has held the responsibility of the central president of All Nepal Women's Association, has also served as a women's development officer. After the term of the then Vice President Sasikala Dahal ended, the post of Vice President was vacant for the past one year. He was elected as a member of the National Assembly on January 12, 2078.

He has visited China, India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Afghanistan, Kyrgyzstan, Philippines, Thailand, Indonesia, America, France, Spain, Switzerland and other countries. His research articles on women's empowerment and inclusion and action plan, women's role in the communist movement, joint writing with Sahana Pradhan, and economic development have been published in various journals.

Continuation of national consensus: Deputy Prime Minister Shrestha

Earlier in today's meeting, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Physical Planning and Infrastructure, Narayankaji Shrestha, presenting a proposal to elect MP Aryal as the vice president, said that no other member's candidacy for the post of vice president is a continuation of the national consensus reached by the government.

'When the government took the vote of confidence, it received a vote that gave a message of national consensus, and now, as a continuation of that, there has been an atmosphere of national consensus in the vice president as well,' he said.

He said that it gave a very good and positive message. Minister Shrestha said that after the political change, the current main task is to advance the country's economy.

'There is a need for all political parties to work together to create an environment of national consensus in order to intensify the drive for prosperity along with social justice while protecting national independence, and this is being realized from all sides,' he said.
