Third President of the Republic of Nepal: Ramchandra Paudel (Biography)
Kathmandu: Ramchandra Paudel, a senior leader of the Nepali Congress and former Speaker of the House of Representatives, has been elected as the President of the country through the voting held on Thursday for the third President of the country.
Paudel was born to his mother Rishimaya and father Durgaprasad Paudel on October 29, 2001 in Savik Mirlung Bahunpokhara of Tanahun. He is survived by his wife Savita Paudel and four daughters (Sharmila, Sanja, Anugya, Awajna) and a son (Chintan).
Born in a middle-class farmer family, Paudel's permanent residence is Vyas-8 Belthumki Tanahun, while his current address is Kathmandu-16 Bohoratar Balaju. He has studied Shastri (Sanskrit Literature, 2024), Post Graduate (Nepali Literature, 2027).
Poudel, who established the Himalayan Student Association in Pokhara in 2016, was a representative at the Nepal Sanskrit Students Association's Kathmandu session in May-June 2017 while studying at Pokhara Vindhyavasini Pathshala. He participated in the democratic movement protesting against the imprisonment of Prime Minister BP Koirala and other leaders who dissolved the elected parliament on 1st December 2017.

He passed the SLC examination from Nandiratri High School, he was the founder president of Nandiratri High School Students Association, President of Ranipokhari High School Students Association, gathered students from different 22 schools in Judhodaya High School and led the movement demanding an independent student union.
He was arrested in 2019 as the secretary of the Nepal Sanskrit Students Association in the valley movement in 2019-2020 and in the nationwide independent student movement in 2020-2021.
A member of Congress Tanahun (2034) and District Deputy Chairman (2036), leader Poudel was the coordinator of the Congress Tanahun Committee formed to promote multi-party system in 2037, Congress Central Member and Head of Propaganda Department in 2040 and Congress Central Member in 2043.
Paudel, who was the Congress Central General Minister (2062-2064), Congress Central Vice President (2064-2072), Congress Parliamentary Party Leader (2064-2070), became the Congress Central Acting President in 2072.

Paudel, who was arrested from Kathmandu in 2018 for his involvement in the armed struggle of the Congress to occupy Bharatpur and was sentenced to detention for about a month for the first time, was arrested during the student movement and during various political movements thereafter, he spent more than 14 years in prison from 2018 to 2062.
He was elected as a member of the House of Representatives from Tanahun Region No. 1 in 2048 and then was elected from Tanahun Region No. 2 in 2051, 2056, 2064, 2070 consecutively in the House of Representatives and Constituent Assembly elections. He was elected from Tanahun Region No. 1 in the House of Representatives election held on November 4.

After the election, he was the Minister of Local Development in 2048 and the Minister of Agriculture in 2049. He was elected Speaker of the House of Representatives on 2nd January 2051. Paudel 2056 and thereafter Deputy Prime Minister and Information/Communications Minister, Minister of Local Development, Deputy Prime Minister and Home Minister as well as Coordinator of the Peace Committee (2061-2062), Minister of Peace and Reconstruction (2063-2064), Leader of the Congress Parliamentary Party and Leader of the Main Opposition Party in the Parliament (2064 - 2070) held the responsibility.
Paudel has received various awards related to human rights, including the Mahendra Vikram Shah Award (Mahendra Vikram Shah is the founder of the Nepal Democracy Congress), the state honor 'Order of the Rising Sun' awarded by the Japanese government - 2020).

After BP Koirala was released from Sundarijal Jail in 2025, he went to the Central Jail to meet the then student leader Ramchandra Paudel and urged him not to be distracted, and inspired him to lead the democratic movement. Poudel had his first meeting with BP there. At that time, BP also met Communist leaders Manmohan Adhikari, Shambhuram Shrestha and Kamal Koirala who were in jail along with Paudel.
Having spent more than 14 years in prison from 2018 to 2062 in political life, he has made a special identity as a socialist thinker and experimenter and a clean image, a simple life, a practical person with high ideas, as well as a clear speaker and a lecturer of democratic socialism.

Known as the Congress coordinator, a moderate leader, he always played a moderate and coordinating role to settle the disputes and disagreements between the then chairman of the party BP Koirala, the popular leader of the party Ganeshman Singh, the founder of the party Krishna Prasad Bhattarai and later the chairman Girija Prasad Koirala and Singh and Bhattarai.
Similarly, he played a leading role in the historic negotiations and consensus work to bring the then Maoists in the armed conflict into the mainstream politics.
